Shirley Williams became a full-time professional artist in 1989, after leaving behind a thriving career in Toronto as a video / documentary producer. She currently works in a large warehouse studio in Windsor, Canada 10 minutes from the Michigan border. This close proximity to the US has given Shirley a unique, international perspective.
Shirley Williams paints contemporary abstract landscapes in acrylic and encaustic wax. She has gallery representation on both sides of the US / Canadian border as well as in the UK. Currently in preparation is a major solo exhibition in 2010 / 2011 at one of Canada’s major museums, the Art Gallery of Windsor.
Shirley was the winner of a National Portfolio Competition in 2008. She has been featured in numerous publications including a biography in the October 2007 issue of The Artist’s Magazine. In 2006 Shirley Williams was chosen to be Visual Artist in Residence of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra for the 2006 – 2007 Symphony Season.
In 2009 Shirley Williams wrote and published the e-book for artists called “Stand Out in a Crowd with Dazzling Photos”. She was invited to be one of 12 expert Panelist / Presenters at the SmARTist International Telesummit 2009 on the subject of Artist Portfolios.
In addition to numerous Public, Corporate and Private collections, major international projects include site-specific commissions for a private jet lounge, and an award-winning 127-foot yacht in the Virgin Islands.
