‘Chromatic Landscapes’

Original Paintings Series

The ‘Chromatic Landscape' series has me coming back full circle to painting abstract landscapes through the lens of various color palettes.

Ever since I was a small girl, watching the landscape fly by from the backseat of my parents car, the horizon line has been a point of fascination. To this day, one of my favorite things to do, is drive along the Detroit River to and from my studio every day. The horizon slides by my peripheral vision and I feel exhilarated by the blur of color.

My paintings continue to be created with multiple layers of color that interact with one another in different ways depending on the light and angle of view. The closer you get to the painting, the more distinct each color becomes. I’ve limited my palette for this series to only three colors plus black and white.

My process is intuitive, painterly and abstract as I respond to the memories of the energy the landscape exudes.

This new series of original paintings ranges from small framed pieces to large scale canvases. All are focused on the energetic buzz of color and a textured surface that looks like encaustic wax.
